Roger Dubuis Hommage La Placide Limited Edition: perpetual calendar with biretrograde display

Roger Dubuis presents the new Hommage La Placide, a limited edition of only 28 pieces created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Geneva-based manufacture and pay tribute to its founder, Mr. Roger Dubuis.

The new model revisits the original Hommage collection launched in 1996. That series was dedicated to the watchmakers who had shaped the career of Mr. Dubuis, turning the spotlight this time on the master himself.

Faithful to the founder’s horological philosophy, the Hommage La Placide Ref. DBHO0612 combines the Perpetual Calendar complication with the biretrograde display that Mr. Dubuis particularly favoured.

Each watch is manufactured in-house using both original and newly remanufactured components, all of which meet the standards of the Poinçon de Genève.

The 38 mm case is crafted from 18K pink gold with a polished finish and measures 11 mm thick. Water resistance is rated to 3 bar (30 metres / 100 feet).

The dial exemplifies Roger Dubuis’ characteristic multi-layered design. It consists of five levels, each crafted with its own decorative technique. The outer flange is circular brushed with rhodium coating, featuring polished angles and a transferred minute track.

The calendar segments and counters are made of mother-of-pearl with hand-bevelled sides, while the main plate, in a lacquered hue known as “Leman Blue,” tributes Lake Geneva.

Completing the display, the moonphase sits on a blue aventurine base with domed 18K yellow gold moons.

Visible through the transparent sapphire crystal, the Calibre RD1472 combines the RD14 base calibre with the RD72 perpetual calendar module.

Composed of 307 components, the self-winding RD1472 operates at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and offers a 48-hour power reserve. It features a newly designed 18K pink gold rotor and exhibits fifteen distinct hand-finishing techniques, including Geneva stripes, perlage, bevelled edges, circular graining, and mirror polishing.

Originally developed in the early 2000s, the RD14 calibre was Roger Dubuis’ first in-house automatic movement. For this new edition, all movements were carefully inspected, with recalculated gear trains and restored components, while the RD72 module adds the perpetual calendar function displaying the day, date, month, leap year, and moonphase through a pair of retrograde hands.

The construction includes two star-shaped wheels, one with 12 teeth and another with 48, enabling a smooth display of months and leap years on the same subdial.

Paired with a blue calf leather strap, interchangeable via quick-release spring bars, and secured by a pink gold triple folding clasp, the watch is delivered in a dedicated collector’s box including a push corrector, magnifier, and certificates of authenticity and Poinçon de Genève compliance.

The Roger Dubuis Hommage La Placide Ref. DBHO0612 is priced at €144,000 and produced in a limited edition of 28 pieces.
